New Delhi: The Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goel on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) deal with the United Kingdom (UK), said everything was on track so far, but British Prime Minister Liz Truss’ sudden resignation yesterday gave rise to clouds of uncertainty over free trade agreements between the two countries.

Goel also said, “India will wait and watch for the change in the British leadership and then formulate a strategy vis-a-vis free trade agreements with the UK.”

Goel said on the free trade deal with the UK said, “We will have to wait and see whether they have a quick change of leadership. Let’s see who comes into the government and what their views are. It’s only after that we will be able to formulate a strategy vis-a-vis the UK,”

“Politicians and businesses across the board in the UK recognised that it is very important for them also to do an FTA with India…But I would believe that our FTAs with the UK, Canada, EU, one or two more we may launch soon, all that is well on track,” Goel added.

Liz Truss resigned as British PM yesterday after just 45 days in office, in the wake of an open revolt against her chaotic leadership in the Conservative Party over financial turmoil and a political crisis.
