Heavy rains lash Thane district of Maharashtra

Mumbai: The Thane district of Maharashtra witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday, September 16, 2022. The copious rainfall led to severe water logging thereby resulting in heavy traffic across the cities.

Several videos featuring inundated areas have been making rounds on the internet. According to authorities, rivers Kundalika, Ulhas and Kalu in the district have crossed the danger mark due to heavy and incessant downpour.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Nashik highways witnessed traffic amid downpour due to poor road conditions and several potholes, the officials informed.

Thane Municipal Corporation’s regional disaster management cell personnel and firefighters have been attending calls regarding water logging at several locations in the Thane city.

RDMC chief, Avinash Sawant said, “A section of the Ghodbunder Road in front of the Chitalsar police station was flooded and unfit for traffic movement.”

Meanwhile, the distict administration alerted people living near Sapgaon bridge as heavy rains lashed close to the Bhatsa dam.

Thane managed to record 93.97 mm rainfall. This is the highest rainfall recorded in a day this year. The rains continue to lash Thane district of Maharashtra, flooding several low-lying areas in the region.

Thane city police urged people to use local trains instead of vehicles for the next 2-3 days.

IMD had issued an orange alert for rainfall in the Central region of Maharashtra. The department also warned of heavy rains in Mumbai for the next 2-3 days.
