AHMEDEBAD, Often nurturing curiosity and encouraging young minds to go on a path less travelled are perhaps the most important contributions education can make, something that Adani Vidya Mandir Ahmedabad (AVMA) has strived to do. And that is proof when their student Alvina Roy became Gujarat’s German language topper, an achievement she credits her teachers and principal for.

The 15-year-old joined AVMA in 2015 and has been a diligent student, having won the Student of the Year award in an interschool competition in Pune last year. Being a keen learner, she wanted to push herself beyond the regular classroom learning and that is what her teachers wanted her to do as well. AVMA facilitates all its students to learn foreign languages through self-learning videos of Foreign Language Olympiad Association (FLOA). That is when she decided to learn German language.

So why German and not any other foreign language? “I initially wanted to learn French, but my father insisted that I take up some other language which is not that common, and I chose German,” she says.

Alvina learned the language with the help of the videos and study material provided by FLOA.

“I am grateful to my school for everything that they did for me. I completed my level 1 exam for German language proficiency, followed by level 2 examination conducted by FLOA in which I secured the top spot in Gujarat and was ranked 12th nationally. I can’t thank my teachers and my principal enough for their continued support. The title of Gujarat’s German language topper is surreal to me. I started this journey because I wanted to learn something new, challenge myself, being a topper is just a bonus,” she adds.

Alvina, who aims to serve the nation as a civil servant in the future, for now wants to come to aid of German tourists visiting the state.

“My mother wants me to go for level 3, which I haven’t decided upon yet. My principal suggested that I use this skill in a positive manner. I would like to probably get in touch with the German embassy and help German tourists when they visit the state or the city of Ahmedabad. That is exciting,” she shares.

AVMA is committed to realise the vision and mission of creating global citizens, who are driven by the values of academic excellence and ethics. Recognizing that each student is different, they cater to each one as per their capabilities to truly empower them and bring out the best in them.
