New Delhi: The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has expanded eligibility under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme to include final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students, in a move aimed at improving youth employability and industry readiness.

The change, introduced during the pilot phase of the scheme, allows students in their final year to apply for paid internships in companies across sectors, the government said in a statement on Wednesday.

Applicants must continue to meet existing eligibility criteria and submit a no-objection certificate (NOC) from their educational institutions, confirming that the internship will not interfere with academic requirements. The certificate can be issued by authorised officials such as heads of departments, deans, principals or training and placement officers.

The ministry said the move aligns with the goals of India’s National Education Policy, which emphasises experiential learning and industry exposure as key components of higher education.

The internship scheme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations by providing students with hands-on experience, workplace skills and exposure to professional environments.

Under the programme, interns receive a minimum financial assistance of ₹9,000 per month. More than 300 companies have participated in the pilot phase so far, offering opportunities across multiple sectors.

The scheme is open to Indian citizens aged 18 to 25 years, and applications can be submitted through the official portal, the statement said.
