Football: Five coaches with the most trophies so far

New Delhi, Mar 29: The football coach plays the crucial role of coordinating, motivating, instructing, and organizing the team. His skills, professionalism, and strong team approach make the players win the accolades.

The five football coaches whose teams have won the most trophies so far are:

  • Sir Alex Ferguson: Under the 27-year-long leadership of this British legend, Manchester United FC won 37 titles, including 13 English Premier League and two UEFA Champions League. Before he joined Manchester United FC, his boys won ten titles with the Scottish Club Aberdeen FC, including three Scottish League Championships, four Scottish Cups, the UEFA Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup. Sir Alex Ferguson is regarded as the greatest football coach of all time.
  • Pel Guardiola: The Spanish coach has to his credit 37 titles, including 14 major trophies with FC Barcelona, 7 with FC Bayern Munich, and 10 trophies with Manchester City FC. He is currently regarded as the best coach in the world.
  • Mircea Lucescu: The 78-year-old Romanian coach has managed Galatasaray, Dynamo Kyiv, Inter de Milan, and Shakhtar Donetsk. At the end of his career, he collected 35 trophies. Mircea is well known in Shakhtar Donetsk FC as he won with the team eight Ukrainian Premier League, six Ukrainian Cups, seven Ukrainian Super Cups, and the UEFA Cup for the 2008-2009 season. He is among the most decorated football coaches in the history.
  • Valeriy Labanosky: The late coach won 30 trophies in his career from 1969 to 2001. He managed national teams and football clubs including Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine, UAE, and the Soviet Union; and,
  • Ottmar Hitzfeld: The former German manager won 28 trophies in his coaching career. He is known mostly for the 14 trophies he won with FC Bayern Munich, including five Bundesliga titles. He also won the big trophy in European football that is UEFA Champions twice, the first time with Borussia Dortmund in 1997 and the second time with FC Bayern Munich in 2001. In his career, he managed some of the biggest clubs in Germany and Europe like FC Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Grasshopper Club Zurich, FC Aarau, and the Switzerland national team.

Besides these, some of the other well-known coaches in football history are Jock Stein and Luiz Felipe Scolari with 26 titles each, Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti with 25 trophies each, and Giovanni Trapattoni with 23 titles.
