New Delhi, May 25: Spanish football club FC Barcelona has fired Xavi Hernandez as their head coach after two seasons at the club. According to the Spanish media reports, German veteran Hansi Flick will replace Xavi as Barcelona’s head coach.

“Barcelona wants to thank Xavi for his work as a coach, which adds to his unmatchable career as a player and the captain of the first team, and wishes him all the best in the future,” the club said in a statement.

As a player, Xavi spent 17 years at FC Barcelona, from the club’s academy to the first team, and won 22 trophies with the club, including 8 Laliga titles and 4 UEFA Champions League. Xavi, 44, joined FC Barcelona as a coach in November 2021, playing 142 games and winning 89 matches.

He also led FC Barcelona to win the Last year’s Laliga title and the Spanish Cup but failed to win any trophy in the current season. Xavi will play the last game as Barcelona coach on Sunday against Sevilla FC.
