New Delhi: The Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO) on Saturday claim that around 100 farmers from Punjab are ‘missing’ who took part in tractor rally on republic day.

The PHRO today announced free legal aid to the farmers booked by the Delhi police for the red fort incident.

Hakam Singh, a lawyer with the Punjab and Haryana High Court, said at least between 80-90 youths from Punjab had not returned to their camps at Singhu and Tikri.

“A group of lawyers is trying to trace them. We are in touch with the police, farm unions and hospitals,” Hakam Singh said.

The Delhi police started a strong investigation after some protesters tried to attack the city police and on Friday, urged local people to share the information of protesters involved in the Republic Day violence.

Delhi police booked the anti-social elements under the damage to Public Property Act, Epidemic Diseases Act and Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.

Political experts have expressed their views on farmers’ protest and said “Government was in touch with farmers’ leaders, but the situation turned wrong when peaceful protest was converted into violence. Criminal activities and damage to the public property weakened the farmers’ protest.”
