New Delhi: In what is viewed as a significant indicator of the healthy Indian economy and customer’s comfort levels, the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki on Friday reported its highest-ever monthly wholesales in the month of August.
In August 2023, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) sold a total of 189,082 units, which is its highest-ever monthly sales volume. Total sales in the month include domestic sales of 158,678 units, sales to other OEMs of 5,790 units, and exports of 24,614 units, the company said in a statement.
The leader of Indian roads for the last four decades, MSIL has over 46 percent market share in this sector in the country, despite stiff competition from Indian and foreign carmakers.
The auto major’s dispatches to dealers last month were 14 percent higher as compared to 1,65,173 units in August 2022.
Its total domestic passenger vehicle sales were at 156,114 units as against 134,166 units in August 2022, a growth of 16 percent.
As customers increasingly preferred high-end models, the dispatch of compact cars, including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, and Swift rose to 72,451 units over 71,557 units in the year-ago period.
However, the sales of mini segment cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, declined to 12,209 units last month from 22,162 units in August 2022, it added.
Utility vehicles, such as Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny, Ertiga, and XL6, clocked sales of 58,746 units last month as compared to 26,932 units in August last year.
MSIL said its exports last month stood at 24,614 units as against 21,481 units in the same month last year.
