Earthquake: Temblor measuring 4.3 on Richter scale jolts J&K

New Delhi: The historic village of Hanle in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir experienced an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale on Tuesday morning.

Sharing a seismograph on the microblogging site, National Centre for Seismology (NCS) tweeted, “An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred on November 02, 2021, at 9:30 am IST at latitude 33.39, longitude 84.42 and depth of 20kms, located 513 km East of Hanle, Jammu, and Kashmir.”

When the earth trembled, panicked villagers rushed out of their houses. There are no reports of casualties or damage to life or property so far.

The Himalayan region has frequently experienced tremors recently. Today’s was the third earthquake in two months after those felt on October 24 and 30.
