New Delhi: Nepal and Bhutan, which share India’s rich culture and tradition, observed the Ayurveda Day on Tuesday to commemorate the founder of the ancient medicinal system and gods’ physician, Lord Dhanvantari, to mark the festival of Dhanteras.

The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, and the Ayurveda Campus, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, jointly organized a webinar titled “Ayurveda for Well Being – Prospects and Challenges” as part of the week-long celebration of Aarogya Saptaha to mark Nepal’s Sixth Ayurveda Day (Dhanwantari Jayanti), also known as Rashtriya Aarogya Diwas.

This was done as a part of the Government of India’s ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, to celebrate 75 years of Independence.

Nearly 200 experts, enthusiasts, diplomats, and officials attended the event.

Bhutan also celebrated its Sixth Ayurveda Day by organizing a virtual webinar on “Ayurveda for Nutrition” under the auspices of the Indian Embassy.

Indian Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said Ayurveda literally means the knowledge of life which originated in India over 3000 years ago. It based an Ayurveda lifestyle on harmony with surrounding nature.

She said Ayurveda is one of the widest practiced systems of traditional medicine in the world, according to the World Health Organization’s World Traditional Medicine Strategy, 2014-2023.

As part of the #AmritMahotsav celebrations in Bhutan, the webinar was conducted jointly with the Department of Traditional Medicine Services of the Ministry of Health of the Royal Government of Bhutan.
