Defense: Russia to deliver the first shipment of S-400 missile system to India by 2021 end

New Delhi: The Deputy CEO of Almaz-Antey company Vyacheslav Dzirkaln on Monday confirmed that Russia will deliver the S-400 system to India by the end of 2021 following the schedule and contractual obligations of the Russian side.

Deputy CEO Vyacheslav Dzirkaln said at the International Military-Technical Forum ‘ARMY-2021’. Almaz-Antey is a Russian state-owned company in the arms industry.

Dzirkaln further informed that the Indian military personnel is currently undergoing training to learn how to operate the S-400 defense system.

“As for the training, the first group of Indian specialists has completed the training. The second group is undergoing training. I would not talk about the number of people but it is a sufficient number for the Indian armed forces to effectively operate our equipment. I would like to say that the results are shown by the first group of Indian specialists after the training was very high. I would like to note the level of training of Indian specialists,” he said.

In October 2018 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a deal of $5.43 billion for five S-400 regiments.

Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport has said that it might sign a new contract with Turkey soon for the supply of more S-400 systems. Russia and Turkey had signed their first S-400 deal in 2017 and Turkey received the delivery of their first shipment in July 2019.

Turkey is the first member state of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to procure the S-400, much to the displeasure of the United States.
