Cyclone Jawad to hit Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Coast by December 4
New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal that will likely intensify into Cyclone Jawad.
The cyclone will hit the North Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast and bring heavy rainfall and storms in the region on the morning of December 04, with the wind speed ranging up to 100 kmph.
The IMD shared aerial photographs and tweeted, “The depression centered over the Bay of Bengal near Latitude 12.0 degrees North and Longitude 87.5 degrees East, about 770 km South-Southeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) will move North-Westwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours.”
“Depression intensified into a deep depression over West-Central adjoining South-East Bay of Bengal at 5:30 am IST of December 03, 2021. To intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and reach North Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast by tomorrow morning,” it added.
Meanwhile, the East Coast Railway cancelled operations for nearly 95 trains from December 2 to 4 as a preventive measure against the cyclonic storm Jawad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed preparations ahead of the storm. He took to the micro-blogging site and shared, “Reviewed preparedness to deal with Cyclone Jawad, including timely evacuation of those in affected areas and ensured the maintenance of essential supplies. Various authorities are on standby. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being.”
The PM directed the concerned officials to take every possible measure to ensure a safe evacuation and to maintain and immediately restore essential services like electricity, telecommunications, health, and drinking water, among others.
