Covid-19: Punjab government extends restrictions till April 10

Amritsar: The Punjab government on Tuesday extended the restrictions till April 10 to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the state. The decision was taken after Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the state with the Chief Secretary and other top officials on March 30.

The Punjab Chief Minister office on Tuesday said that “Reviewing the COVID situation with the Chief Secretary and other top officials, the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said all restrictions that were in place in the state till March 31 will now remain in force till April 10, after which they would be again reviewed.”

According to official data – 11 districts of Punjab state are most affected. The districts are – Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ropar, and Moga. It also announced a ban on social gatherings in these 11 districts.

As per the new restrictions – Cinema and movie halls are allowed to operate with 50 percent seating capacity.

The government data shows that six states – including Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh, have reported a high number of daily COVID-19 cases and account for 78.56 percent of the 56,211 fresh cases recorded in the country in a day.

India’s COVID-19 count has increased to 12,095,855, while 271 more fatalities have pushed the death toll to 162,114, according to the ministry’s data updated at 8 am.

The government of India has boosted its vaccination program to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The health authority has vaccinated around six crore citizens so far.

Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 94.18 percent. The Health Ministry said, more than thirty-seven thousand patients recovered within 24 hours and with this one crore thirteen lakh patients have already recovered from the infection.
