Bharat Bandh hits Bus Services in Kerala, Railway’s Tracks Blocked in Calcutta
Calcutta: A two-day nationwide strike – called by a joint forum of central trade unions – is likely to affect banking, transport, railways, and power services on Monday and Tuesday. Due to heavy protests in several places of different States daily commuters have faced problems in traveling.
In West Bengal, even though the trade unions could be seen protesting on the streets, the state government has asked all offices to remain open and mandated employees to report for duty. Members from the Left Front gather in huge numbers & block railway tracks at Jadavpur Railway Station in Kolkata, in view of the 2-day nationwide strike called by different trade unions.
In Kerala, all government offices remain closed on the first day of the strike. At some places, protesters stopped those in their private cars too. In Bengal, train tracks – were blocked by protesters.
This is the first major protest that India is set to witness after assembly elections in five states. The BJP was able to retain four of five states – Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Uttarakhand, and Goa – while the AAP won Punjab. The BJP said it won the four states because of its pro-people and pro-development agenda.
