NEW DELHI, Apr 24: An all-party meeting convened by the government on Thursday unanimously condemned the barbaric terror attack on the innocent tourists at the picturesque Baisaran valley in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who briefed media persons on the all-party meeting, said all the political parties have supported the government in the fight against terrorism in wake of Pahalgam carnage that killed 26 tourists. He said all the parties have expressed their views and concern over the matter.

The government on Thursday briefed leaders of various political parties on the Pahalgam terror attack and heard their views at an all-party meeting in New Delhi. The union home minister Amit Shah, who had visited the attack site, and the external affairs minister S Jaishankar gave the governments’ version of the tragedy.

“All the parties were of the opinion that they stand united with the government in the fight against terrorism,” he said. The union minister further said the devastating terror attack has ruined the peaceful atmosphere of the Kashmir valley. “Everything was normal and peaceful in Kashmir from past few years, but this terror attack has ruined the atmosphere in the valley,” he said. The Centre has also informed the parties of its intention of a tougher action in the future against Pakistan, he said.

The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the opposition had fully backed the government for “any action” it deemed fit condemning the Pahalgam massacre. “All political parties have uniformly condemned it and the opposition has given full support to the government to take any action,” Mr Gandhi told the media.

A similar meeting of all the parties in Jammu and Kashmir also unanimously condemned the terror attack. BJP MLA Devinder Kumar Manyal said after the J&K all-party meeting that all parties condemned the attack. “Today, all parties collectively condemned the attack. A resolution was passed stating that this act is against humanity. We stand with the families of the victims. The central government has taken steps to prevent such attacks in the future,” Manyal said.

Meanwhile, Mr Gandhi is scheduled to visit Kashmir on Friday and meet the injured at the Anantnag hospital.

International flights of Air India and IndiGo have been impacted by the Pakistan airspace closure on Thursday, with the Tata Group-owned airline saying its flights connecting North America, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East are likely to take an alternative extended route. IndiGo said some of its international flights have been impacted due to the sudden airspace closure by Pakistan.
