KOLKATA — In a major boost to West Bengal’s healthcare and infrastructure landscape, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, announced on Thursday a comprehensive investment roadmap for the state, including a ₹4,000 crore commitment to build a state-of-the-art medical institution and an overall investment target of over ₹1 lakh crore by 2035.
Speaking at the launch event of the Adani Arogya Mandir in Kolkata alongside West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Mr. Adani outlined his group’s vision to transform the state into an industrial hub while expanding healthcare access for all socio-economic strata.
World-Class Healthcare Facility
The cornerstone of the day’s announcements was the Adani Arogya Mandir, a non-profit medical institution that will feature:
- 2,000 Beds Capacity: 1,000 beds dedicated to economically weaker sections eligible under State and Central health insurance schemes.
- Advanced Medical College & Research Center: Designed to train a highly skilled healthcare workforce within the state.
- ₹4,000 Crore Initial Outlay: Expected to generate over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs across Bengal’s healthcare ecosystem.
“It is an honour to stand here today on a ground that will soon become an institution of health, hope, and human dignity for generations to come,” Mr. Adani stated during his address.
Expansion Across Infrastructure Sectors
Elaborating on West Bengal’s strategic geographical advantage as a bridge between Northern/ Northeastern India and Southeast Asian trade routes, Mr. Adani pledged ₹1 lakh crore in investments by 2035 across key growth sectors:
- Ports and Maritime Logistics
- Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution
- Transport Networks (Roads, Bridges, and Ropeways)
- Green Cement Manufacturing
- Hyperscale Data Centres
Cultural Heritage and Urban Restoration
In addition to industrial and medical infrastructure, the Adani Group committed support toward preserving Kolkata’s cultural heritage. Initiatives will include:
- Supporting the restoration of the historic Writers’ Building.
- Revitalising Kumartuli Ghat.
- Promoting Kolkata’s iconic Durga Puja art on global platforms.
Drawing a parallel to the group’s foundational roots, Mr. Adani remarked, “Three decades ago, Mundra in Gujarat became our first karmabhoomi in the West. As I prayed at Kalighat this morning, I sought blessings that Bengal becomes our second karmabhoomi in the East.”
