Abu Dhabi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday met UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, with the two leaders exchanging views on bilateral and global issues in the spirit of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In a post on X, Jaishankar described the meeting as warm and productive, highlighting the importance of continued engagement between the two countries amid changes in the global order.
The External Affairs Minister also joined his UAE counterpart for the Middle East session of the Raisina Dialogue, titled ‘The World Ahead: Power, Purpose & Possibility’, held in Abu Dhabi.
During the discussion, Jaishankar highlighted the accelerating pace of change in the international system, driven by both long-term trends and immediate geopolitical developments. He observed that countries were exploring new partnerships and alternatives in response to their evolving circumstances.
Emphasising the need for greater strategic awareness, Jaishankar said countries must move beyond traditional comfort zones to respond effectively to the changing global environment.
He also called for urgent reform of multilateral institutions, noting that stronger cooperation among smaller groups of countries could support efforts to strengthen multilateralism.
Referring to bilateral ties, Jaishankar said the India-UAE partnership over the past decade demonstrated how the two countries had adapted to changes in the global environment.
Jaishankar is on a three-day official visit to the UAE from October 14 to 16 to review the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and participate in the second Raisina Middle East Forum. He was received in Abu Dhabi by UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy.
Earlier, the External Affairs Minister met Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on the sidelines of his UAE visit. The two leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation in business, connectivity, culture and people-to-people exchanges, along with expanding ties in trade, tourism and education.
