Robert De Niro to feature in Wise Guys
Mumbai: Hollywood veteran actor, Robert De Niro is expected to play the lead in upcoming Hollywood film titled Wise Guys.
The upcoming film is a period drama that is centred on a pair of Italian-American men named Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. These men ran two separate crime families during the mid-20th century America.
The makers revealed that the veteran actor will essay both key roles in the film. Wise Guys is scheduled for a theatrical release worldwide.
Directed by filmmaker Barry Levinson, the mob drama is written by Nicholas Pileggi and produced by Warner Bros. Martin Scorsese’s film Goodfellas, which also starred De Niro, was based on Pileggi’s 1985 book titled Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family. However, the book is reportedly unrelated to Levinson’s film.
Wise Guys marks the fifth collaboration of De Niro with Levinson after the Emmy-nominated HBO TV movie titled The Wizard of Lies, followed by films What Just Happened, Wag the Dog, and Sleepers.
The upcoming film marks the veteran’s return to the genre of crime drama. He had earlier starred in films including Goodfellas, The Godfather Part II, Mean Streets, Casino, and more recently in Joker and The Irishman.
The actor is currently in talks of collaborating with Martin Scorsese for Apple TV+ original, Killers of the Flower Moon.
