New Delhi: The Indian Naval Ship Sutlej (INS Sutlej) completed the second joint hydrographic survey between the Indian Navy and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) between April 18 and May 24, 2022.

During this trip, the Indian ship explored the northern Maldives and the Male area, at the request of the Maldives government, official sources said.

The last time some of these locations were surveyed was in 1853.

In February and March 2021, the India Naval Ship Darshak conducted the first joint hydrographic survey.

This second survey will aid in creating more charts, enhancing navigation safety, economic development, security and defense, environmental protection, coastal zone management, and scientific research.

The Maldives has established five key sectors in its Strategic Action Plan, which includes the blue economy.

The Hydrographic Institute in Goa had agreed to train more MNDF personnel.
