Chennai: At least 11 people, including children, were killed on Wednesday after a temple car came in contact with a live electricity wire in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district. The incident of electrocution took place near Kalimedu as the district was celebrating the Chariot festival.

Chief Minister MK Stalin, who is scheduled to will leave for Thanjavur around 11:30 am on Wednesday, announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh for each of the bereaved families.

According to a media report, Fourteen people are under treatment at the Tanjore Medical College Hospital with minor injuries and two are critical. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and conveyed his thoughts to the families of the deceased.
