Five workers succumb to Poisonous gas leak in a Mangalore fish factory
New Delhi: Five workers died after a gas leak occurred in a fish factory located at the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), Karnataka, on Sunday, April 17, 2022.
According to reports, several people fell sick after inhaling the poisonous gas. The deceased have been identified as Umar Farooq, Nizamuddin Saab, Sameerullah Islam of West Bengal, and two others.
Meanwhile, other workers, namely Mirajul Islam, Azan Ali, Sarafat Ali, Kalimullah, and Aftar Malik from West Bengal, are critically ill and were undergoing treatment at a private hospital after being transferred from a government hospital as their condition deteriorated.
As per reports, a worker who went to clean the fish tank on Sunday night fell ill after he inhaled the leaking gas from one of the tanks. The other workers who came to his rescue also fell sick. They were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital.
Five of the total admitted workers passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, whereas five others are in severe condition. However, the cause of the gas leak is yet to be ascertained.
