New Delhi: Bulgarian player Grigor Dimitrov defeated top-seed Russian player Daniil Medvedev by 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in 2 straight sets at the Men’s Singles of the BNP Paribas Open 2021 at the Indian Wells, California, on Thursday.

The 3-set match opened with Medvedev leading with 4 serve points as the Bulgarian defended his serves and breakpoints.

Medvedev won the set 6-4. Though he took control and led the next set by 4-1, Dimitrov’s aggressive defense, powerful aces, and swift-paced serves made Medvedev commit unforced errors and ultimately lose the set by 4-6.

Though the U.S. Open winner tried his best to make a comeback with his forehand smashes and overhead volleys in the final set, Dimitrov won 5 net points and sealed the victory 3-6.

Grigor Dimitrov will face World No. 8 Hubert Hurkacz in the next round on Friday.
