Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday ordered the health department of the state to make an advance plan for the all-district to tackle the third wave of covid-19.

The CM’s Secretariat in its official statement said that “The CM spoke to collectors of Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Hingoli districts during the meeting in which state Health Minister Rajesh Tope was also present.”

State Health Minister Tope also informed that 21 cases of the mutated Delta Plus variant of the novel coronavirus were found in seven districts across the state.

On the Delta Plus variant, he said “We are isolating such cases and taking all details like travel history, contact tracing and if they have been vaccinated. We have decided to send the samples for the genome sequence study. No deaths have been caused due to the Delta Plus variant. Symptoms and treatment are the same for this variant. No children have been infected with this variant.”

According to Union Health Ministry, the INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV -2 Genomics Consortium) has informed that Delta Plus Variant is currently a ‘Variant of Concern (VOC)’ and it has increased transmissibility, stronger binding to receptors of lung cells, and potential reduction in monoclonal antibody response.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV) have decided to conduct a study to see if the new and more potent variant of the Covid-19 virus can be neutralized by vaccines.
