68th National Film Awards: Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru wins Best Feature Film

New Delhi: The winners of the 68th National Film Awards were announced in New Delhi on Friday, July 22, 2022. Established in 1954, the awards are administered by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals.

This year’s ceremony also honoured films from the year 2020 across several categories. The awards were given to films produced in 2020 due to Covid-19 related delays.

South Indian superstar, Suriya’s film Soorarai Pottru won the Best Feature film, followed by Suriya and Ajay Devgn being honoured with the Best Actor award for films Soorarai Pottru and Tanhaji, respectively. Aparna Balamurali and Soorarai Pottru won the Best Actress award.

On the other hand, Sachy, Ayyappanum Koshiyum bagged the award for the Best Director

Other films to win include Tanhaji (Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment), Toolsidas Junior (Best Feature Film: Hindi), Dollu (Best Feature Film in Kannada), Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam (Best Feature Film in Malayalam), Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum (Best Feature Film in Tamil), Colour Photo (Best Feature Film in Telugu), Dada Lakshmi (Best Feature Film in Haryanvi), Samkhor (Best Feature Film in Dimasa), and Jeetige (Best Feature Film in Tulu)

Earlier on Friday, a ten-member jury including filmmaker Vipul Shah met the Information and Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur and submitted a Jury report on the 68th National Film Awards.

Speaking about the awards, Thakur said, “I want to congratulate all the jury members and all those people whose work was reviewed and would like to congratulate those recipients who will be awarded with the National Film Awards. A word of appreciation for everyone who has done an outstanding job.”

“I am glad that this year we will be holding the 68 National Film Awards since we could not hold the awards for two years because of Covid-19,” he added.
