New Delhi: Entertainment network giant Viacom18 announced the launch of a new channel dedicated to sports on Friday, April 15, 2022.
Titled Sports18, the network’s broadcast channel will be available in SD and HD and will offer all types of sports content for the Indian audiences.
“Sports18 will house world’s most premium sports properties, including the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, NBA, LaLiga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Abu Dhabi T10, and top ATP and BWF events,” an official statement read.
It will feature premier picks from football, basketball, tennis, cricket, hockey, and badminton. The channel will also cover international sports news, magazine and highlights shows.
Viacom18 sports CEO Anil Jayaraj said in a statement, “We are pleased to launch a dedicated sports channel for an audience across demographics and geographies.”
“Sports18 will strive to be India’s most-coveted broadcast network by providing fans easy access to a comprehensive bouquet of international and premier sports content,” he added.
The network forayed into the sports segment to target the most-anticipated Indian cricket event, the Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to an IPL insider, “Viacom18 has bought IPL media rights bid document and could be one of the strong contenders either in TV or digital space.”
