USA: The United States will introduce a new requirement for all US-bound air passengers to declare whether they have visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in the previous 21 days as part of measures to prevent the spread of Ebola.
According to a new order issued by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the requirement will take effect on November 3. Passengers will be required to submit declarations either digitally or on paper.
The CDC is scheduled to brief major US and international airlines on the new requirements and compliance procedures. The measures come amid an ongoing outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in Africa. The CDC has also imposed restrictions on foreign nationals who have visited Uganda or South Sudan in the previous three weeks. The CDC has said that no cases linked to the current outbreak have been reported in the United States.
