Tremblor: A 6.1 magnitude earthquake jolts Andaman and Nicobar Islands
New Delhi: A tremblor measuring a magnitude intensity of 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted the Campbell Bay and adjoining areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) shared a seismograph on Twitter, highlighting the affected regions.
According to the NCS, the epicentre of the earthquake was located approximately 431 km South-Southeast of Campbell Bay.
The depth of the earthquake was estimated at 75km below the earth’s surface, the NCS revealed.
“Earthquake of Magnitude 6.1 occurred on September 24, 2022, 02:23 IST on latitude 3.71 and longitude 95.96 with a depth of 75 km located 431 km SSE of Campbell Bay, Andaman and Nicobar Island, India,” the NCS informed.
A similar earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck Chile on Saturday, September 24, 2022, around 04:23 am with a depth of the earthquake measured at 10 km below the earth’s surface.
“Earthquake of Magnitude 6.1 occurred on September 24, 2022, 04:23 IST on latitude -41.34 and longitude -75.61 with a depth of 10 km located 979km SSW of Santiago, Chile,” the NCS informed.
However, no report of casualties or damages surfaced so far.
