New Delhi: For decades, they have mesmerized millions of Indians and foreigners. On Sunday, aficionados worldwide danced with music maestros Shankar Mahadevan and Ustad Zakir Hussain on their winning the prestigious 66th Grammy Awards in the US.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the duo on their achievement.

On January 22, Shankar Mahadevan mesmerized millions of Indians and others with his rendition in Ayodhya during the consecration event of the Ramlalla idol.

Reports from Los Angeles, USA, where the award ceremony was held, said it was a momentous achievement when the duo’s fusion album, The Moment, was adjudged the Best Global Music Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for their collaborative masterpiece.

This album was released on June 30, 2023.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Grammys shared the post and wrote, “Congrats Best Global Music Album winner – ‘This Moment’ Shakti. #GRAMMYs.”

They were nominated in the race for Grammys with artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.

This Moment features 8 songs created by the Shakti Band’s John McLaughlin (guitar, guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V. Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).

In an acceptance speech, Mahadevan said, “Thank you boys. Thank you, God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you.”

His shout-out to the nation evoked a loud cheer from the crowd.

Mahadevan also thanked his wife for her constant support.

“Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to,” he added.
