New Delhi, January 19: Vivek Agnihotri’s movie “The Kashmir Files,” which has created a big controversy in the country in the year 2022, is re-released in the theatre today, on January 19th, on the day of Kashmiri Hindu genocide day.

The director of the film, Vivek Agnihotri, announced this news on his Twitter handle, quoting that “it is the first time a film has ever been released twice in a year.” On selecting a particular date for the re-release, he explained that January 19 is Kashmiri Hindu genocide day; thus they decided to re-release the movie on that occasion.

Following the directors’ announcement, actor Anupam Kher tweeted that the film’s re-release was being done as a mark of respect for the Kashmiri people’s exodus, which took place 33 years ago.

On January 19, 1990, over 5 lakh Kashmiri Pandits were forced to leave their hometown overnight due to a genocide campaign by the militants. This incident was reported by the National Human Rights Commission of India, and now the whole world has recognised it.

The Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora (GKPD), in collaboration with its partners and connected organisations around the world, is organising a series of events on this day to remember this tragic day.

Now that the creator of the movie has described the reality-based situation in the cinema, they have re-released the movie in order to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in that awful incident.

The Kashmir Files were released on March 11, 2022, and due to the topics they addressed when it was initially released, it caused a lot of commotion. The picture was produced for between Rs. 20 to 25 crores, yet it ended up being a success because it brought in more than Rs. 340 crores at the box office.

The film’s re-release coincides with January 20’s “Cinema Lovers Day,” when tickets to the theatre will cost only 99 rupees.
