Tennis: Novak Djokovic wins Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award for the 5th time
New Delhi, April 23: Serbian tennis icon Novak Djokovic won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award on Monday in Madrid, Spain, the media reported.
He was recognized for his historical season of 2023, where he won three Grand Slams of the four he competed in. They are the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and the US Open. But he missed out at Wimbledon.
“I won it for the first time in 2012 as a 24-year-old. I’m very proud to be here 12 years later, reflecting on a year that brought me and my fans excitement and success.” Novak said.
The 24 Grand Slam champion, Novak has become the first athlete to win the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award five times in sports history.
His rival of all time Rafael Nadal also received the ‘Good Award’ at the Laureus World Sports Awards. His foundation empowers more than 1,000 young people in Spain and India.
