New Delhi, July 23: British player Andy Murray has confirmed his retirement from tennis after the Olympic Games 2024, being held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, the media reported on Tuesday.

Murray, who will play in the singles and doubles in the Games, said it will be his last tournament as a tennis player.

“Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament. Competing for Team Great Britain has been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I’m extremely proud to get to do it one final time.”

Murray,37 debuted in the Beijing Olympics 2008, but he didn’t win a medal as he lost to Lu Yen-hsun. Four years later, he won his first Olympic gold medal in London (2012), after defeating Swiss Roger Federer.

In 2016 Murray became the first male tennis player to win two Olympic gold medals when he defeated Argentine Juan Martin de Potro at Rio de Janeiro. In his tennis career, he has won 46 singles titles, including three Grand Slams.
