New Delhi: Indian opener Shafali Verma was named the ‘ICC Women’s Player of the Month’ winner for September 2026, following incredible title-winning outings in the Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games with the bat and clutch contributions in high-stakes matches. On the other hand, Indian captain Shubman Gill was named ICC men’s Player of the Month for a record fifth time following his outstanding performance in the One Day International series against the West Indies.
It is the second time Shafali has won the monthly award, with the 22-year-old first tasting success in November last year when she helped India claim the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup on home soil, as per the ICC. Shafali Verma was the highest run-scorer for her team as India won the Women’s Asia Cup.
Shubman Gill emulated West Indies captain Haley Matthews, who has also been the ICC Player of the Month on five occasions. Gill then smashed the quickest double century ever, his 223 off 133 balls helping his team chase down a huge 406-run target with eight wickets in hand and 39 balls still left.
