Relief: Tata’s Air India to restore staff salaries to pre-Covid levels
New Delhi: Air India on Friday announced the restoration of its staff’s salaries to pre-pandemic levels from September 1, 2022.
The airline had cut their salaries in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
The loss-making airline, which the Tatas took over from the Government of India in January this year, will also revise crew layover allowances and meal arrangements from September 1.
In a communication to the employees, Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson said the airline “will be restoring the salary reduction for all employees with effect from September 1, 2022”.
While the airline is yet to return to profitability, “sun-setting most of the Covid measures is an important and welcome milestone,” he said.
The pandemic had significantly impacted the airline industry, and the operators had resorted to cost-cutting measures, including salary reductions, to manage their financials.
