Rajee Padha Rajkiya Murma Jatra fair begins today in Ranchi

Jharkhand [India]: The historic Rajee Padha Rajkiya Murma Jatra fair is set to begin today at Mandar in the Ranchi district of Jharkhand. The two-day state-level fair will be formally inaugurated this evening.

The Rajee Padha Rajkiya Murma Jatra fair, a symbol of Jharkhand’s rich tribal culture, deep-rooted faith and historical heritage, begins today at Mandar in Ranchi. The fair is not merely a cultural gathering but also a reminder of a centuries-old agreement between the Munda and Oraon tribes, symbolising social harmony and unity. According to local tradition, the agreement was reached when the Oraon community migrated from Rohtasgarh to this region, with the aim of preserving mutual brotherhood. The fair continues to commemorate this historical association. One of its major attractions is the traditional gathering of Sarna flags representing 40 Padhas, where traditional priests and religious leaders from different areas participate along with their respective Khodhas, or traditional dance groups. Religious rituals will be performed this afternoon at the Shakti Khunta located at the Jatra site, under the leadership of Sarna religious leader Bandhan Tigga. The fair will be formally inaugurated at five PM with the lighting of 40 traditional lamps representing the 40 Padhas. The Governor and the Chief Minister, along with several other dignitaries, have been invited to the event. Lakhs of devotees from across Jharkhand are expected to visit the two-day fair. The district administration has made elaborate security arrangements in view of the expected gathering.
