Rainfall: IMD issues Orange alert for Uttarakhand, UP, MP, Gujarat, Maharashtra
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange rainfall alert for the Indian States of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
IMD even shared a weekly spatial rainfall distribution map on Twitter, thereby highlighting the most to least affected regions.
The IMD wrote, “Fairly widespread or widespread light/moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm and lightning very likely over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh during September 15 to September 17, 2022, and over West Madhya Pradesh on September 15, 2022.”
“Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls also likely over Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh on September 17, 2022. Isolated heavy falls likely over East Madhya Pradesh on September 15, 2022,” IMD wrote further.
Informing about rainfall in Gujarat and Maharashtra region, the IMD tweeted, “Isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/ lightning very likely over Saurashtra and Kutch on September 15; Gujarat region on September 15-16; and over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa during September 15-17.”
“Isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over Gujarat State on September 15 and over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa on 15th & 16th September, 2022,” it added.
According to officials, the rainfall activity is likely to decrease in the Southern peninsular region of the Indian subcontinent during the next five days.
