Public holiday on Jyotiba Phule’s birth anniversary
New Delhi, April 11: The government of Rajasthan has declared a public holiday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
The women and child development minister Mamta Bhupesh, the Rashtriya Phule Bridge Team of Rajasthan, and various social organisations had come forward and demanded to declare a public holiday on the Jyotiba Phule birth anniversary. As per the demand and keeping in mind the common people’s sentiments on this subject, the chief minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, approved the proposal.
But before that, the day had been declared an optional holiday. “Jyotiba Phule Birth Anniversary was earlier a restricted holiday in Rajasthan, giving an option to the employees to take leave without the closure to the offices,” said CM Gehlot.
Now, as per the decision taken on Monday, the state has increased the total number of public holidays to 30 and restricted holidays to 20.
The decision has been implemented as of April 11, 2023, which coincides with the birth anniversary of the jyotiba Phule.
The social activist Jyotiba Phule has made an immense contribution to change the social and customary beliefs of society. He worked for social change and played a significant role in eradicating untouchability and empowering society.
Every year on April 11th, on the day of the jyotiba Phule’s birth anniversary, a tribute is paid and gratitude is expressed for their contributions towards social service. And now Rajasthan will pay tribute by declaring a public holiday.
