Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh will hold summit on December 17: Bangladesh foreign minister says
New Delhi: The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina will hold a virtual bilateral summit on December 17, The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Sunday late night.
In a statement he said that “We will raise our major issues and ‘quick impact’ projects will be inaugurated too.”
On the relations between India and Bangladesh – Momen added that “The two countries have set an example by resolving issues like LBA and maritime boundaries through dialogue and discussions. India and Bangladesh can resolve all outstanding issues through discussions. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has shown the leadership maturity in resolving problems.”
Momen remembered former Prime Minister of India – Indira Gandhi and said “We must acknowledge the contributions of the then Indian prime minister and India is a time-tested friend of Bangladesh. So, India has reasons to be proud of our victory,”
Bangladesh is going to celebrate its 50th Independence Day on 26 March 2021 and Dhaka invited PM Modi to visit the country on that day to celebrate the Independence Day of Bangladesh together.
The Indian premier is expected to travel to Dhaka in 2021 and India’s High Commissioner to Dhaka, Vikram Doraiswami has already met PM Hasina for consultations ahead of the summit. A sixth rail route from Dhaka to Siliguri is expected to be flagged off on Bangladesh’s 50th Independence Day.
