President Murmu hosts Swiss President Guy Parmelin, highlights opportunities in trade and technology

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu received Swiss President Guy Parmelin at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday and hosted a banquet in his honour, highlighting opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and emerging technologies.

Welcoming Parmelin, President Murmu said India and Switzerland enjoyed warm and cordial relations rooted in the shared values of democracy and the rule of law. Cooperation spans trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, culture and people-to-people contacts, she said, adding that regular high-level exchanges continued to give momentum to bilateral ties.

Describing Switzerland as an important trade and investment partner, President Murmu said the implementation of the India–European Free Trade Association Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement had created greater opportunities to expand economic engagement.

She noted that Swiss companies had invested in important sectors in India and maintained a notable presence in infrastructure, particularly the construction of roads, railway bridges and tunnels. They could also explore opportunities in emerging areas such as clean and green technology and artificial intelligence, she said.

President Murmu welcomed the signing of agreements during Parmelin’s visit to promote cooperation in migration and mobility, research and technology transfer.

The two leaders agreed that close cooperation could bring immense benefits to the people of both countries and expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen India–Switzerland relations.
