PM Modi Hails India’s Global Cheese Wins, Calls It Boost for Dairy Sector
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised India’s performance at an international cheese competition in Brazil, calling it a proud moment for the country’s dairy sector and traditional food heritage.
Speaking during the 133rd episode of Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister highlighted how Indian cheesemakers made a strong global debut at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil, held in São Paulo.
India secured top honours at the competition, including one Super Gold, two Gold medals, and one Silver. Over 30 countries participated in the event, where entries were judged by a panel of 350 experts.
PM Modi described cheese as an integral part of India’s culinary tradition and noted the growing diversity and global recognition of Indian dairy products. “The taste of Bharat is reaching plates around the world,” he said, pointing to the transformation underway in the dairy sector through value addition and innovation.
Among the winners, Eleftheria Gulmarg (Brie-style cheese) received the prestigious Super Gold medal. Yak Churpi-Soft from a Leh-based farm and Eleftheria Brunost (whey cheese) secured Gold medals, while Eleftheria Kaali Miri (Belper Knolle-style) earned a Silver.
The Prime Minister said the achievement reflects how traditional Indian flavours are finding a place on the global stage, marking a milestone for the country’s artisanal dairy industry.
