PM Modi Expresses Grief Over Udhampur Bus Accident, Announces Ex Gratia

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. 

He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident. 

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Pained to hear about the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” 

The Prime Minister also announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who died, while the injured will receive ₹50,000. 

According to officials, a passenger bus while going from Ramnagar to the town of Udhampur had overturned near Kanote village.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh provided an update on the tragic incident through a post on X. He said, “In the tragic road accident of a transport bus near Kaghote Nalla, as of now, 16 persons have died on the spot, and several others have sustained serious injuries. Rescue and evacuation operations are currently underway with teams from Police, SDRF, and District administration on site. The injured are being shifted to GMC Udhampur for urgent medical treatment. I and my office are in constant touch.” 

J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and chief minister Omar Abdullah also expressed grief over the tragic incident.

Earlier in the morning, fifteen persons were killed and sixteen others injured after a passenger bus met with an accident near the Jalo area on the Ramnagar–Udhampur route.
