NEW DELHI, May 15: The Indian Army on Thursday said following the understanding reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan on May 10, both sides have agreed to continue confidence-building measures aimed at reducing alertness levels along the border.
The decision was conveyed in a communication issued by the Indian Army on Thursday. “As the situation develops further, we shall intimate you,” the note added.
A media report quoting Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, said the ceasefire has been agreed upon until Sunday. The Minister told the Pakistan National Assembly that both sides had “military to military communications” on Wednesday and Thursday and “today we had a conversation and it is a ceasefire until May 18.” The Indian Army has contested Pakistan’s claim that another round of DGMO-level communication took place on Wednesday.
India carried out precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on terror infrastructure early on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. Following the Indian action, Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10. India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes.
