Nothing CEO Slams Apple’s First Foldable ‘iPhone Duo’ as “A Complete Waste of Money”

London [United Kingdom]:  Carl Pei, CEO of smartphone maker Nothing, has criticised Apple’s upcoming foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, over its high price and missing features. He called the device a “waste of money”, questioning whether it offers enough value for its reported price of $1,999.

According to the report, Pei raised concerns about the phone’s hardware and camera features. He pointed out that the device does not include Face ID, Apple’s facial recognition technology, and instead uses Touch ID, a fingerprint sensor built into the power button.

The phone’s slim design when unfolded is reportedly one reason for the change. However, Pei questioned why Apple would leave out a feature that has been available on its flagship smartphones for years.

He also criticised the camera setup, which reportedly lacks a dedicated telephoto lens and a LiDAR scanner. Pei compared the phone’s 12-megapixel front camera with the 18-megapixel camera on the iPhone 18 Pro, which is priced lower.

Pei also questioned whether Apple’s foldable phone offers enough new features to stand out from competitors such as Samsung.

Despite his criticism, he praised Apple’s attention to product details and said the company’s focus on design and small improvements has helped it build a premium brand.
