NCW issues guidelines to ensure safety of women using app-based transport services

New Delhi: The National Commission of Women (NCW) has issued guidelines to States and Union Territories to ensure safety of women passengers who are using App-Based and Digital Transport Mobility Services. The NCW has underlined that at a time when app based transport services have become an integral part of women commuting daily, there is a need to ensure their safety.
The NCW informed that the guidelines have been framed in accordance with its objectives of safeguarding the rights and dignity of women. The statutory body also noted that they have also taken into consideration the J.S. Verma Committee’s Report, 2013.
NCW Chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories, requesting them to take appropriate measures for implementation of the Guidelines. She also said that women must be able to travel safely and fearlessly, whether they are using public transport or app-based mobility services.
She also underscored that as technology continues to reshape the way people travel, safety must remain at the centre of this transformation. A coordinated effort by State authorities, police, transport authorities and mobility aggregators is essential to ensure that every woman can travel with confidence, security and dignity.
