NEW DELHI, Nov 29: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the ruling BJP has assured the people of the newly-created union territory that its statehood would be restored once the “selective killings” in the region ended and the common people were able to move freely.

“The BJP is concerned over the selective killings in Kashmir as its activists were targeted,” the party J&K general secretary,  organisation, Ashok Koul told reporters in north Kashmir’s Bandipora on Monday.

“In these selective killings, the BJP leaders are being killed here or the non-Kashmiris or non-Muslims, even some Muslims are also targeted. We are against every selective killing & no religion allows it,” Koul said.

Pointing out that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Minister Amit Shah had on the floor of Parliament had given the government’s commitment on the issue that the statehood of J-K would be restored at the earliest opportune time, Koul said the J&K unit of the BJP support the demand for the restoration of its statehood the stand taken by the centre on the timings for the action. “When the situation in J-K becomes better, when it (situation) will be normal, the selective killings will end, and common people will be able to move freely, the statehood will then be restored,” he said.

To a question on conducting the assembly elections, the BJP leader said the polls would be held soon after the delimitation commission submits its report. “The delimitation commission has time till March 6 (next year). When the commission submits its report under which 90 seats will be delimited, the elections will be followed soon after,” he said.
