New Delhi: ISRO chairman V. Narayanan issued a statement that out of the total workforce of ISRO, 20% are women of the premier space research organisation, and they are doing an outstanding job. He further stated that the percentage of women working as employees in ISRO should go up to 40 per cent in the future. While speaking to the reporters, he highlighted the importance of the rise in the women’s workforce, as 50 percent of the nation’s population is comprised of women.
The country cannot progress unless the women contribute in a certain way. On being asked about the women workforce of the organisation, he replied, “There are a lot of women employees. The women are doing an outstanding job, and they should be encouraged in their contribution. Gradually the number should go up. Right now, maybe there are around 20 per cent women scientists, but it should go up to 40 percent plus.
Also, while talking to reporters, he mentioned the great social reformer Rammohan Roy. He stated Rammohan Roy and other luminaries and polymaths had championed the causes of women’s empowerment and their upliftment in the 19th century and blazed the trail.
