New Delhi: India has rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his address to the United Nations General Assembly, terming them “unwarranted” and asserting that no external party has any locus standi on the issue.
Responding to questions on Erdogan’s remarks during a bi-weekly media briefing on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India rejects the references to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“India rejects unwarranted references to India and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir made by the President of Turkiye during his UNGA address,” Jaiswal said.
He said the issue concerns India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“This is a matter, as you would understand, about India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and no external party has any locus standi on this issue,” the MEA spokesperson said.
During his address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 22, Erdogan said disputes in South Asia, including the Kashmir issue, should be addressed through dialogue within the framework of the UN Charter and relevant resolutions.
