South Korea: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, is currently on his four-day visit to South Korea, pitching India’s maritime opportunity to Korean industry. In an official statement, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has said that the visit coincides with efforts by two countries to expand shipbuilding cooperation and move India toward its goal of becoming one of the world’s top five shipbuilding nations by 2047. Sonowal opened the trip in Busan, which he referred to as the hub of Korea’s maritime industry, and interacted with Indian professionals working in Korean shipbuilding. The minister said that India requires shipbuilders, marine engineers, naval architects, designers, welders, project managers and technology specialists in plenty.
