IMD Predicts Dense Fog, Rainfall over North India

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted dense fog and cold conditions in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

Cold to severe cold day conditions will be seen in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the next three days, whereas north Madhya Pradesh will witness cold day conditions during the next 2 days.

The IMD took to Twitter and wrote, “Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions very likely over parts of UP and Bihar during next 3 days. Cold Day Conditions in some parts over north MP during next 2 days and over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and north Rajasthan during next 24 hours and abate thereafter.”

“Dense to Very Dense Fog in night/morning hours very likely in isolated pockets over Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal during next 2 days,” it added.

The department revealed low to moderate fog with visibility up to 200 meters over Jammu Division, Hisar district of Haryana, and Silchar district of Assam. The IMD warned citizens of low visibility in different parts of Rajasthan.

“Very dense fog reported at isolated pockets over Churu (25 m), Ganganagar (200 m), and Bikaner (400 m) districts of West Rajasthan.”

According to the IMD, isolated pockets over Bareilly, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Varanasi, and Allahabad districts will likely experience Dense fog with visibility up to 50 meters.

The isolated regions of Agra, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur districts of Uttar Pradesh will experience dense fog with visibility ranging up to 200 meters each.

“Bihar (Gaya 50 m and Purnea 200 m) and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal (Bagdogra 100 m) to experience dense fog,” the IMD tweeted.

Meanwhile, a fresh and active western disturbance in Northwestern India is likely to affect the country’s weather conditions from January 21 onwards.

The IMD hinted at light to very light and isolated rainfall over the Delhi-NCR region from Friday to Saturday. The region might experience rain from the night of January 21, 2022, which will continue till the morning of January 23, 2022.

The overlying western disturbance will result in overcast skies and minimum temperatures dropping to 13 degrees Celsius.
