Illegal immigrants: Second Indian batch may return from the US on Feb 15
New Delhi: The second batch of illegal migrants from India may be deported from the US and land at Amritsar on February 15, the media reported on Friday.
A US plane carrying 119 illegal immigrants is likely to land at Amritsar airport on February 15.
According to reports quoting the official sources, the American plane is expected to land at the Amritsar airport around 10 p.m. on Saturday (February 15, 2025).
Among them, 67 hail from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two each from Goa, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
Most of the deportees hailing from Punjab had said they wanted to migrate to the US for a better and more secure future for their families. However, all their dreams were shattered when they were caught at the US border and brought back to India in shackles.
This crackdown started after US President Donald Trump assumed office on January 20. The American’s enforcement agencies have launched a crackdown against illegal immigrants from various countries.
The people who entered the US’ different states, through the “donkey routes”—illegal and risky pathways used by migrants to enter America or other illegal means by spending lakhs of rupees — are now facing deportation.
The SIT has so far registered 10 FIRs against fraudulent immigration consultants on the statements of deportees, said a senior police official.
