Formula 1: Teen-aged Briton replaces Carlos Sainz in the Saudi Grand Prix
New Delhi, Mar 9: An 18-year-old British teenager, Oliver Bearman, has replaced Carlos Sainz, who underwent surgery, in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Spanish motor racing driver Carlos Sainz Vázquez de Castro, 29, suffered from appendicitis two days ago, making him miss the practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Bearman, who was in Ferrari reserves and is a Formula 2 driver, will now debut in Formula One, as the third-youngest driver ever in this event.
“I woke up this morning fully prepared for my F2 race and I got the call, just a few hours before FP3, that I would do it…I wish the best to Carlos and I hope he recovers well. But this is a great opportunity.” Oliver said.
Oliver Bearman joined the Ferrari driver academy in 2021. He won the 2021 Italian and ADC (German) and F4 titles, and F2 four races in the maiden season of 2023.
